Godly Play Teacher Training August 10th, 1-5pm

April late 010 A mutual training opportunity focused on the Godly Play method.  We will review theory, practice storytelling and problem solve in a fun and friendly atmosphere.  All GP teachers are strongly encouraged to attend and anyone interested in helping us in our youngest children's ministry is also invited.  Please RSVP to JAG.

Children and Youth Sunday School Begins August 24!

June 142 We return to our regular schedule and begin Christian education and formation for youth and children on August 24th.  Every child and teen needs to turn in a registration form (top link on the far right of this page).  We have a couple of needs:

  1. Help preparing/moving classrooms in the Cathedral Clark Center and the Annex Youth Center.  A few hours of your time this summer would help alot!
  2. Fresh teaching volunteers.  Many of our teachers have boldly served for many years and are ready for new ministries.  Please step up to the plate and offer your time and talent.
  3. Make sure we have your information(all children and their birthdates) in our church database: that helps us keep in touch.  If you haven't received any postcards from me this summer, or you do not get the newsletter, then you are probably not in our database.
  4. Invite a friend to church.

Children's classes this year will be divided by age; if your child has a birthday in the middle of the year you are free to choose to stay or move up.  Siblings are welcome to stay together, and other flexibility is available if you check with the teachers.

3-5 year olds: Godly Play in Cathedral Clark Center Blue

6-8 year olds: Godly Play in Cathedral Clark Center Yellow

9 -10+ year olds: Mustard Seed in Cathedral Clark Center Green

Youth classes are moving across the street to the new youth center upstairs at the Annex.  Our youth program works in generations that stick together.  We will also offer monthly game and movie nights for all youth.  Some of the following plan is subject to change.

6-7th graders: New Rite 13 Annex Youth Center Green

8-9th graders: New J2A (Wizdomick) Annex Youth Center Pumpkin

10th+ :BASE: Confirmation/Reaffirmation Annex Youth Center Purple

If you haven't been playing along with us, your teen is always welcome to begin.  However the BASE class is the only path towards confirmation for Sr Hi teens who are 16 or older.  We suggest that you make BASE a priority for any 16+ teen, and let them choose whether or not to be confirmed before the Bishop visits in the spring.  All youth classes need strong attendance and expect 60% attendance at classes and fund raisers to lead to participation in the Urban Adventure (J2A) and/or Mission Trip (all youth eligible) next summer.

Wizdomick! Post-Mystery Trip

Mysterytrip jag 077  We had a marvelous Mystery Trip with our 08 Rite-13'rs to Navajoland in Utah.  Our group stayed with our new friends at St. Mary's in the Moonlight, Ojeto.  We explored Monument Valley, Goose Neck, Canyon de Chelly and Hovenweep.  IWe even were spread out across four states at the Four Corners monument.  We cooked and prayed and played for 5 days.  We learned alot about each other's tastes and some of us learned how to do the dishes.  The 'monumental' moment can be seen here.  Photographs are available in the album to your right, more to be added later.

Faith in 3D: January at Disneyworld?!

Passport/Mission Exchange is a phenomenal program of camps, mission and opportunities for faithful adventure coordinated jointly by the Episcopal Church, Community Fellowship Baptists (progressive Baptist denom.) and the Presbyeterians.  They just sent me information about a MLK weekend program called FAITH IN 3D at disneyworld for all 6-12th graders.  The total cost would be around $500 each, but I am sure it would be worth the work and the money.  If any families of next year's youth are interested let me know by mid summer.

Auction and Breakfast Thanks!

Auction_n_pancakes_001 A huge thanks and a bundle of praise to all the teens and families that helped make the auction and breakfast happen.  We raised nearly $3000 for our excursions this summer.  Yall rock.

Emails will be going out this week with packing lists.  A few deposits are still outstanding; and we also need DEFAULT OUT OF TOWN PERMISSION FORMS (to your right on the blog) for ALL TEENS AND ADULTS.  These forms must also include copies of medical insurance cards and a photo or photo id.  :)

Pilgrimage Auction and Breakfast

Lincoln_memorial Pilgrimage is a core practice of our youth ministry programs. It flows out of the Rite 13 liturgy and toward the process of Confirmation. Supporting our youth program today helps promise a youth program for the future.

Our Journey youth are hoping to make a pilgrimage to DC this summer. We need your help to make this journey. Please join us for worship and for a Silent Auction and Breakfast.

All R13 and Journey Youth need to be at the Cathedral by 7:30 on Sunday Morning the 4th of May.  Parents are also needed.

A copy of the Auction donation form is downloadable here: Download formandletter.pdf
