Christ is Arisen!

Thanks to all who donated eggs and candy and toys for our Easter Egg Party this Sunday.  If you want to recycle the eggs or pick up some new ones at post-easter sales, I can find a place to store such things.  Also a thanks to Wendy and her munchkins for their help stuffing eggs. 

A reminder that there is not Sunday School this week for children or youth. 

However I believe there is another paint party to move further with our classroom coloring.  If any of you can help on Saturday morning contact Ken, the sexton. 

Parents and teens: I can use some labor help with cleaning out the unused classrooms and transporting boxes to and from the Annex.  If you have a scout in need of a project or community service hours to fill, please give me a buzz.

Lastly, Teachers: new Godly Play books are here.  Pick them up from my office. 

Snacks Collection and Quiltmaker

If any of your Chapel age children came back talking about a book about a quiltmaker - that would be THE QUILTMAKERS GIFT which is in the list to your right.  A prince who loves presents and an old woman who only gives her quilts to the poor.  I highly recommend this title!!!

The Food Pantry and Title 1 are currently collecting snack foods for teens in unstable homes.  I would like to strongly encourage families to consider bringing one item each week.  Children love to give!  The items can be placed in the basket in the Narthex (foyer) or in the basket in the chapel.  This is the announcement from the Cathedral News:

APS Title One: St. John’s Food Pantry has been asked by the APS Title I Homeless Project to provide food for homeless kids once every other month. We join other faith communities and volunteer groups helping the alarming number of homeless kids in our public schools. We are asking the good people of St. John’s to donate foods that teenagers, on their own, can eat evenings and weekends, when free school meals are not available. Suggestions are: granola bars, cereal bars, nuts, peanut butter crackers, small pop-top cans of meats and other snack-type foods that have some nutritional value. Items should be in small packages that will fit inconspicuously into a backpack. We will be providing food through February. Please bring donations clearly marked APS Title I to the Food Pantry basket in the back of the nave.

Lastly remember the Lenten Supper Series that starts Thursday February 14 at 6 pm and the first Paint Party this Saturday. Help finish the renovation with new coats of colorful paint.

Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday

Families should mark their calendars for two community events in early February: Shrove Tuesday on Feb 5th and Ash Wednesday on the 6th.

Shrove Tuesday: Featuring a Mardi Gras Theme!  Wear costumes, or bright colors and join together for a evening of food and fun.  Crafts and a costume parade for the children (and youth!). 

Ash Wednesday: At 5pm there will be a special Family Ash Wednesday Service featuring a simplified (but not dumbed down) child friendly liturgy.

Pageant Readers and Photographer Needed!

We are seeking at least 5 young people to be readers for the Christmas Pageant at 5pm on Christmas Eve.  Some of your children have been suggested and might be interested.  Please share this inquiry with them.  The qualifications include:

• 4th  - 12th grader who feels a sense of belonging at the Cathedral
• Good 'out loud' reading and dramatic skills
• Willingness to conquer stage fright
• Absolute ability to be at the rehersal on SATURDAY DEC 22 from 11am till 1pm
• Absolute commitment to being at the 5pm Christmas Eve service

If your young person would like to be a reader with our Pageant please have them contact me by email or phone ASAP.

If your teenager wouldn't like to be a reader but would still like to get dressed up and help us as 'elder Angels and Shepherds', please RSVP using the information above, and make sure you can attend both the rehersal and the service.

We also need to find an older teen or adult with a strong digital camera hobby and someone willing to video and burn copies of the pageant for others.  If you know of anyone, please help me get in contact with them soon.

PAGEANT REHEARSAL DEC 22

Rehearsal for the 2007 Christmas Pageant (Christmas Eve, 5pm service) is December 22 from 11am till 1pm (lunch provided).  The pageant is open to all Pre-K-6th graders, members, friends, neighbors, relatives and grandchildren.

• Video-recording camera person willing to burn dvd's to share with the congregation
• Seamstresses willing to help fix old costumes and craft new ones
