Hey there!

We had a super showing at the ‘Meatballs’ movie last week: thanks for coming out!  Two details for the weekend:

·         The previously scheduled afternoon movie in the annex will NOT occur.  I am having oral surgery on Friday and cannot host it!  Sorry!  Next month is Youth and Family Bowling on the 11^th and ‘Where the Wild things Are’ later that month: we hope to see you there.

·         We still need more parents to step up and volunteer as doorkeepers.  This is as easy a volunteer activity as we have and it supports our volunteer teachers in their work.  Please contact Jane ASAP to claim a Sunday.

·         Our BASE class will be confirmed on November 22 at the 9 am liturgy.  Confirmation is a culmination of our entire youth program, the classes, the trips, the play days.  We strongly hope that all our youth will attend worship that day to support our confirmands.  Mark your calendars now!

·         Lastly, the sports and performance season is in high gear.  I would love to join you for your games and shows…please let me know when and where they are.

St. Johns House of Pancakes May 3

 This is the youth fundraiser of the spring: pancakes and skill auction.  ALL teens need to submit at least one SKILL to the Download Skill auction donation form by April 30th.  Plan to be at the church by 8am to help!!!!!!!!!!!

Youth Skill Auction and Breakfast May 3rd

Teens are expected to help prepare and clean up from our fundraiser breakfast on Sunday the 3rd of May.  We will also have a skill auction at the same time.  Each teen needs to decide on one skill (babysitting, dogwalking...) they can offer to help us in our fund raising efforts.   Download Skill auction donation form and complete with the details of your offer.  This needs to be into JAG by April 30!!!!!

Youth Game Night Oct 19, 4-7pm

Come with your friends for a play date at the Annex. 

Interact, Have a Laugh, Play a Game, Make A Friend!  All 6-12^th graders and their friends are welcome to join us for the first Fall game night at the Annex.  Big group game, smaller board games, maybe video games!  4-7pm! 

Parent chaperons needed, and someone to bring dinner!  Also if you have a game consul and either Guitar Hero or Dance Dance and would be willing to bring it, let me know!  For more information, talk with Jane!

 

CITY OF EMBER Book and a Movie

Let me suggest that you read the book before you see the movie: no matter your age.  It isn’t Austen; but it is a nice read.  As you do consider the role of light and darkness; abundance and scarcity; water and salvation.  Ask yourself and your children: what job would you never want to be assigned?  Is the desire for earth and sky deeply rooted in the human psyche?  What would you miss the most if  you lived underground?

Then come along with us – teens, school aged children and parents – to a movie matinee – SATURDAY October 11^th, downtown, the showing closest to 1pm.  Please RSVP so we may purchase tickets early.  Friends are more than welcome to join us. 

2 Youth Announcements for SEPT 21

1. Youth Parents Meeting will be  Sept 21, 11am in the Library. We will gather to discuss youth fundraising for the fall, review the structure of our programs and parental involvement. Please join us.

2. All Youth Movie Night at the Annex: Sept 21, 4-7pm. All teens and their friends are invited to the first surprise movie night of the fall. Bring a pack of pop, water or juice!Please give us a heads up if you can come - parental volunteers needed!

Wizdomick! Post-Mystery Trip

 We had a marvelous Mystery Trip with our 08 Rite-13'rs to Navajoland in Utah.  Our group stayed with our new friends at St. Mary's in the Moonlight, Ojeto.  We explored Monument Valley, Goose Neck, Canyon de Chelly and Hovenweep.  IWe even were spread out across four states at the Four Corners monument.  We cooked and prayed and played for 5 days.  We learned alot about each other's tastes and some of us learned how to do the dishes.  The 'monumental' moment can be seen here.  Photographs are available in the album to your right, more to be added later. 

Mystery Trip and Pilgrimage Packing Lists

The time is coming! Whoopee.  We are going to have a good time and please take the lists seriously.  If you have any questions give me a buzz.

If you have not already done so, be sure to turn in your 'default permission form' (in a column on the right) with medical insurance information and a photograph.

Faith in 3D: January at Disneyworld?!

Passport/Mission Exchange is a phenomenal program of camps, mission and opportunities for faithful adventure coordinated jointly by the Episcopal Church, Community Fellowship Baptists (progressive Baptist denom.) and the Presbyeterians.  They just sent me information about a MLK weekend program called FAITH IN 3D at disneyworld for all 6-12th graders.  The total cost would be around $500 each, but I am sure it would be worth the work and the money.  If any families of next year's youth are interested let me know by mid summer.
