Aidan. Vision Video, 1999, VHS.

Aidan was the enigmatic Irish bishop who brought with him the Irish Christianity of Iona and seeded it in the landscape of Northumbria. When King Oswald fought his first battle in 633, he erected a wooden cross before the battle near Hexham. Once victory was his and the kingdom secured, he sent to Iona for a bishop. Aidan arrived two years later, and so began the mystical Celtic Christian influence in Anglo-Saxon England.

This program looks at information about Aidan's past, his Irish role as Anmchara (soul friend) to the King, his spirituality and its inspiration for the modern world.  30 minutes. 

John WyCliffe: Morning Star. Vision Video, 1984, VHS.

A dramatic biography of the life of the 14th century scholar and cleric who translated the Bible into English for the first time.  Wycliffe found himself in the middle of religious, political and social conflicts. An Oxford scholar, one of Europe's most renowned philosophers, he was a defender of English nationalism against the power of the pope and a champion of the poor against the injustices of the rich. John Wycliffe taught that God's forgiveness cannot be bought with indulgences. He preached that the only true authority is the Word of God, and the Word could only be understood by all if the people could read it in their native tongue. "John Wycliffe" captures the trials and heroic struggles of this significant man of faith - the "Morning Star" of the Reformation.  75 minutes.

An introduction to the life and ministry of the Reverend Florence Li Tim Oi, the first woman ordained to the priesthood in the Anglican communion.  Florence Li Tim-Oi was ordained a priest by Bp. Ronald Hall of Hong Kong in 1944, primarily because of difficulties occasioned by the Japanese occupation of China. A storm of protest after the war forced her to refrain  from exercising her role as a priest. Towards the end of her life, she emigrated to Canada where she was able to resume her priestly duties.  She died in 1992.  She is remembered in the church calendar on January 24.  You can learn more about her life here.  30 min.

This program looks at William Blake. Blake always sensed there was something different about himself, and he was surely right! Visionary, mystic, engraver, printer, poet, artist, writer — his extraordinary creative skills flowed through many forms to give expression to the extraordinary inner world he inhabited. Dante Aligheieri. Vision/Trinity Media, 1996, VHS.

Throughout history a few special individuals have felt a spiritual longing so profound that nothing could satisfy their hunger. Facing uncharted territory, they mapped their own souls, seeking that mystical place where the self meets the divine. We call them Pioneers of the Spirit.
Born in Florence, Italy, Dante first saw Beatrice in 1274 when he was nine years old, and she became the inspiration for his later poetic works. Her death in 1290 was a profound shock to Dante. He was a soldier for a while and entered politics where he sided with the enemies of Pope Boniface VIII. He was eventually banished from Florence. Julian of Norwich. Trinity Media, 1996, VHS.

This program looks at Julian of Norwich, recognized today as one of 14th century England's most compelling mystics. A contemporary of Chaucer and survivor of the black plague, Julian received sixteen startling images of the crucified Christ that forever changed her life.
