Sacred Stories. Trinity Media, 1990, VHS.

Three noted writers - Buechner, Angelou and Caroll -  recreate stories of their own lives, telling of their personal triumphs and tragedies. Through their storytelling, they invite viewers to discover for themselves the presence of God, the healing power of memory, the value of telling secrets, and the possibilities of changing the future by forgiving the past. Part I: "The Man in the Gray Slacks" and Part III: "The Cowardly Lion" Frederick Buechner shares the stories of his father's suicide which happened when he was ten years old, and his own relationship, forty years later, with his anorexic daughter. Part II: "A Father and a Son" James Carroll offers a memoir of his father and the bond between them that was threatened by the Vietnam war. Ignatius Loyola. Vision/Trinity, 1996, VHS.

Born in Spain of noble parents, he spent a carefree youth until he entered the army and was wounded at the battle of Pampeluna in 1521. During his convalescence he had a religious conversion. After a brief monastic experience he went on to acquire a university education. With several student friends Loyola founded the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits), which eventually received papal approval and is still noted for education and missions. Journey of the Heart. Windborne Productions, 2003, VHS.

A documentary on one of the most significant spiritual leaders of our generation, Henri Nouwen. A Roman Catholic priest, University of Notre Dame, Yale and Harvard professor, author and social activist, Nouwen possessed a unique insight into the human condition. Through his many books, which continue to be widely popular, Nouwen wrote passionately and eloquently about our human frailty and brokenness, while identifying and addressing the spiritual needs of today.

Journey of the Heart is a thought-provoking look at the life of this unassuming, charismatic scholar considered by many of his contemporaries as one of the best and brightest minds of his time. Abandoning the insular works of academia, Nouwen embarked on a radical and personal pilgrimage of downward mobility that led him to L’Arche, a community of people with developmental disabilities.

This documentary features an inspiring conversation with Nouwen shot just a year before his death. Interviews with key friends, prominent colleagues and family members help complete the picture of this unique man of faith – a person of passion and compassion.  60 min.

Thomas Moore, author of Care of the Soul, and a number of other people reveal how they incorporate spiritual concepts of "Place," "Story," "Activity," and "Ritual" into daily living.  Four VHS Tapes.  45 minutes each.

A film about everyone's ministry.  Highly unusual dramatic film where characters discover ministry to each other as a daily Christian practice.  30 min.

Breaking Free. Lifeway, 2006, VHS and guides

Breaking Free: Making Liberty in Christ a Reality in Life, leads you through a study of the Scriptures to discover the transforming power of Christian freedom. Based on Isaiah 61:1-4, this in-depth study draws parallels between the captive Israelites and today’s believers.

Beth uses Scripture to point out the benefits of our relationship with God and shows you how to remove obstacles that hinder that relationship. As you identify spiritual strongholds in your life, you will progress on the journey toward greater freedom in Christ.
